WELCOME TO DIVISION 33, 8th WESTERN RIVERS DISTRICT,
UNITED STATES COAST GUARD AUXILIARY
Welcome to Division 33, 8th Western Rivers Region, United States Coast Guard Auxiliary.
The United States Coast Guard Auxiliary created by an Act of Congress in 1939 is the
uniformed civilian component of the United States Coast Guard supporting the
Coast Guard in nearly all its missions. The core of those missions supported are
outlined by the four cornerstones of the Auxiliary; Vessel Safety Checks, Public Education,
United States Coast Guard Operations, and fellowship. Collectively these are often referred
to as Recreational Boating Safety missions.
Division 33 encompasses a vast geographical area including all but one county in Nebraska,
the lower half of South Dakota, as well as central and western Iowa. As of 2009 there
were 387373 registered boats in IA, NE, and SD, an increase of 16156 over 2008,
a total of 89 accidents, 12 deaths, and 77 injuries. Division 33 members
conducted over 23199 mission hours, including 555 vessel safety checks, over 460 Coast Guard
Operations hours, and over 372 hours of public education. A commendable effort by the
131 members, but the recreational boating safety mission continues to grow.
If you are a US citizen 17 years of age or older and would like to support the recreational boating safety
mission, join Team Coast Guard and become a guardian of the heartland. Honor, respect, and
devotion to duty are the core values of our service; join us and be Semper Paratus!
